Watching today, Tiger misses a putt. he heavily drags his putter out of anger across the green obviously damaging the green quite a bit.  He makes a half hearted attempt to repair it, without any type of success. This is no minor ding on the green.  Even the announcers comment that he did not fix it correctly, and it will impact on the following golfers. what's with this??? Is this something the PGA should address? Or is it because it is tiger, no one will say anything?

I admit that I cheated on golfopinions and visited another forum (sorry - I was weak) and this topic got MAJOR play.  Tiger really took it on the chin.  I don't know what to make of it.  I think this bothers me more than anything he has done.  I'm a huge fan... but damaging the green??  Over the top comment here but that's sacrilege (sp?).  Hopefully someone with guts will ask him about it and hopefully he will apologize profusely.  In the meantime, I hope he wins the tourney.  Love the Annika/Tiger grand slam storyline for the summer...

Yeah, I saw that.  That was more classless than the stuff he usually does - cursing, spitting, slamming clubs down on tee boxes, fist-pumping gamesmanship... It really was unacceptable behavior.  I understand getting frustrated, but he damaged the green and didn't even make an effort to fix it.  It looked like someone drove a cart on the green, slammed the brakes and skidded.

Will Vijay call him on this the way he did with Mickelson and his spikes that were supposedly too long and messed up the green for others?

Just saw the replay of the incident on TGC.      They did not say if anyone playing behind Tiger had a problem with their line being damaged as a result of this action.    Surely if some guy had of had a problem with his putt from Tiger's actions they would have reported it?

Rory or Tiger is not a  saint for their actions.  As for any action taken by the USGA, I doubt it, he's Tiger Woods.  The PGA/USGA needs to do something to these players who think they can get by with these types of misfit problems.   Yes I said misfits!  Just my .02 cents (as you can tell I'm not a Tiger fan!).

I thought about Sabatinni when he did that and wondered where the outrage was.  To me that was unconscionable and a terrible message to send to any junior golfer watching.  I am not a Tiger hater, far from it, I am a big Tiger fan, but still I wonder what Zinger would have said if he were calling the action. I'm a Tiger fan. But if the green determine to be damage cause of him. They should penalize him at least a stroke.

temper tantrums on the golf course... not a pretty sight.  damaging greens... not acceptable.  I'm sure he will get a meaningless slap on the wrist for it.

Tiger is starting to look like a spoiled brat. When he hits a bad drive he slams his driver to the ground, mutters etc. It is really getting kind of pathetic and frankly kind of boring. I would rather watch the steely gaze of KJ CHOI. My vote for guy you want on your side in a drunken bar fight!!!

Well, when I am upset, I probably have my right to dig a putter into the green. What he did was not little and should be addressed. And, no, I'm not a Tiger hater.

This is getting old.  Everytime I log in, I search for the post where the little girls are bitching back and forth. Last week Sabatini made an error in judgement with regards to his behavior.  Damn near everyone on this forum managed to take a shot at him.   This week Tiger purposely damages the green at the US Open, and nobody has S&$t to say. Wow, thats having your priorities straight.....WTF!

Think that gives a little insight into the real TW and shows how biased TV coverage and personal opinion is when it comes to him. If a rooky did that there would be calls for a tour ban, a golfer of TW's level there is no excuse whatsoever. He needs his Dad to sort him out, I tell my kids of for spitting the dummy!

Im like you guys he shouldnt have done it, but it was made to look a whole lot worse because he ran the putter face against the grain and made the grass stand up. If you do this it always looks worse than what it does but he shouldnt have taken his frustration out on the green in the first place....

I wouldn't classify what he did as a little thing.     He is the most recognizable sports figure on the planet right now.     Surely you don't believe he's above criticism because of that distinction when he does something like this?    Tiger knows he doesn't take a step on any golf course without a camera being clearly fixed on him and the networks showing anything of any consequence he does during this round, including non-golf things. He's got a right to be upset with himself, but he doesn't have any right to destroy the putting surface just because he's Tiger Woods.       He doesn't have to be a role model when it comes to being just another person, but he absolutely does have a responsibility to be a role model for golfers from the 1st tee to the 18th green because he is the game's standard bearer.      If it is OK for Tiger to destroy a green, I don't look forward to playing a golf course behind a bunch of Tiger fans since he's declared it OK to take your frustrations out on five feet of putting surface.       Tiger should know better than that.

Tiger did what?:) ....i wonder why the announcers did not make a big deal out of it but everyone else on this board and the other are? I mean..Johnny Tiger hater Miller himself was announcing..this was the perfect opportunity to enlist the whole of America on to the Tiger hate parade....wonder why he did not sieze the opportunity...bad behaviour but are some of us just getting a little carried away?..I wonder...

Must not have been that bad if the most well know sports figure in America is not all over the TV for doing something like this.  I think everything that Tiger does gets magnified so when I do see it and I don't fall out of my chair gasping for breath because like always it was blown out of proportion by all the Tiger Haters here then I can go back to watching the Open.  You've got to be kidding me.  I played with a 60 year old yesterday that damaged the green because he missed a putt.  Then walked off like nothing had happened.  Passionate people do passionate things and they are not always good.  He should get fined if it was really that bad, but you can't change who a person is. Oh yeah, the fist pumping, that has to go.  Actually he should be fined everytime he does that.   Give me a break!!!

as a "nobody" if i did something like that in a usga event, i would get a letter from the usga saying i'm banned from future tournaments and i need to send them a formal letter back telling them why i deserve to play in future events, which they can deny.  it's tiger, he get a 10 minute meeting and small fine that's like a nickle to him, and he goes about his business.  Tiger could do almost anything and he wouldn't get in trouble because of the ratings and stature he has.

Amazing how loyal Tiger fans can justify such behavior on the course......damaging the green by throwing an infantile tantrum is just poor behavior and etiquette and completely inexcusable.....Tiger should be embarrassed and ashamed of his behavior yesterday.  My 7 year old son (who loves Tiger) knows better.....and so should Tiger.  This should be something we would all agree on....regardless of who your favorite golfer is.....and folks shouldn't be recklessly branded "haters" because they speak out against boorish behavior by Tiger in tournament play. If it was Phil, Sergio, or Ernie, all the blind Tiger loyalists would be screaming for a suspension. Incidentally, a couple of years ago during a round at a nice public course in my area, a playing partner did the exact same thing after missing a putt.  The group behind saw it and reported it to the marshall.  The marshall surveyed the damage to the green, and two holes later, my partner was being escorted to the parking lot......no questions, second chances or refunds.....and rightly so.....but his name is not Eldrick Woods.

Yep, you can hear the NBC folks saying "Don't ask Tiger about that.  He could get PO'd at us and not give us interviews.  Then we'll really be stuck". Then you can hear Tim Finchem saying "What if goes to Europe and plays".  I've got to let him slide on that one. Then Fred Ridley says, "Tiger is bigger than the game.  We don't want him against us.  He might start his own Ruling Body and re-write the rules.  We've got to pay attention to what's important for the game...and that is our huge non-profit endowment that pays the salaries that pay the dues at AN".   If I were Fred, I'd do the Rule Book whip out, read him Section I and DQ him.  (Man, the local USGA folks are NEVER going to let me on the Rules staff if they catch these threads....)

Pri-ma-Don-na. That fits Tiger and many MANY other professional and amateur athletes. They are collectively now bigger than the games that they play. You can bet your backside that if ANYONE else did it the fallout would have been HUGE. And, no, I am NOT a Tiger hater.  I am a Prima Donna hater.

Cursing? Tell the media to stop being up his a** or mike him all the time and you won't have to hear it. Spitting??? Wow, I don't think he committed any sin by spitting. Fist pumping??? It's called enthusiam. He loves the game and when he does his fist pump, he does it to pump himself up....get the adrenaline pumping. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's better than stone cold Retief Goosen. That guy needs a personality. Boring as hell to watch. The only agreement I have with you is slamming clubs, although it still is proof that he cares a lot about how he plays and wants to be the best ever. I am competitive just like him. I side with Tiger on this one.

Any proper thinking person can side with Tiger for the damage he did to that green. It is not part of the game.  And he should have been penalized. So, if I miss a putt, now I can embed my putter in the green and moon walk around the cup? Please. No way anyone can accept what he did as reasonable, responsible or respectful.

Hey skink, I'm not as much a Tiger hater as you think. I just get so tired of hearing the media talk him up so much. You know what I mean.....there are other golfers too. Golf needs personalities though and Retief doesn't have one. Golf is changing. It is no longer clap clap clap. It's "GET IN THE HOLE!" "YOU 'DA MAN" "NO LOVE"....LMAO. I love it. That's the way it should be. About the course in Martinsburg, sorry but I've never played it. My only tip would be to watch out for the cows, horses, and sheep on your way to the course....lol
