Got my first upclose look at the new i20 line yesterday. Outside of a brief romance with the old S-59 irons, I've never been a Ping guy.    The new i20 driver caught my eye quickly though yesterday while doing my usual lunch hour browsing through a local store.   The black finish is a beautiful thing and a nice knee-jerk reaction by Ping to capture the attention of guys like me who don't care for the white trend in clubs by Taylor Made and Cobra.    Who has hit it? I'm seeing a local Ping rep this weekend about hitting the driver on a launch monitor.

Titleist 910D2 10.5* - Fuji Motore F3 stiff
Titleist 913F 15* - Diamana S+ stiff

Titleist AP1 irons, 4-PW - DG XP300 shafts
Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 54* and 58*
Ping Anser 2 TR 33" putter
Wilson Staff FG Tour golf ball

I hit it and thoughts are mixed on the driver till I try a lower spin shaft. However the i20 irons and simply put I am in love.

Looks, feel and performance were just fabulous. The feel was a shocker to me. Hit them and tell me if I am in the honeymoon or not. I thought the feel was so good I claim equal to the Titleist AP2.

I focused on the 15* fairway wood and the hybrid at lunch today.    I hit the stock Ping TFC 707 shafts in both.    Both felt very solid, but a tad lighter than I'm used to but not enough for me to get crazy quick with.

Ping and their ribbed grips!   What's up with that?   Ever since I switched to round grips many years ago now, a ribbed grip just feels awkward to me and leads to me hitting everything left.

Let's see what's in the trade-in closet tonight after work.  ;)

What shaft did you try?

I tried the Project X black. Didn't work for me. Had to work for it. The Titleist D3 and RAZR FIT had a Fubuki in it and tipped. Was working.

Yeah, that shaft is spinny. A good 500 rpms over the stock 707D.

It's a low spin head without doubt.
